Bittersweet Knock for Williamson

This tour is turning into quite a nightmare for the undercooked Black Caps, as Shakib Al-Hasan and co. continue to boss over us with a nine-run victory. Despite the narrow margin, we all know who was in control for most part. Well, congrats on a first series win against major opposition, Bangladesh. Richly deserved.

I'll save any assesments of the NZ performance for the end of the series, but there was one thing which was made clear from today's game. Kane Williamson is a must for the India test series, and I'd have him batting at 5/6 whether or not Guptill makes a return to the squad. On the evidence of his 108 today, he plays spin about five times as well as his teammates. Williamson looks like he has a good international career ahead of him, though a losing cause against Bangladesh is not how he'd like to remember his first ton.

The game was also notable for the debut of (fast bowler) Hamish Bennett, who certainly outpaced everyone else and snared three wickets with good, agressive deliveries. I wouldn't get too excited just yet; better batting sides will get stuck into him, and his delivery stride puts far too much stress on his body. Perhaps some help from his ex-Canterbury teammate, Shane Bond, will do the trick.

He isn't the only member of the side who needs assistance, that's for sure.

Regarding players needing help...

I think NZ and BD board can sign an agreement where BD can help NZ to develop quality spinners and NZ can help BD to develop fast bowlers!!!

Nz would probably need quality players of spin more than a quality spinner at the moment.

Younger players take time to play spin in the subcontinent as the wickets are slow and batsmen need to play late as well as use the crease well.

I just hope that unlike others Williamson gets a decent run but I am not sure.

Hello Suhas, apologies for the lack of visits lately, a bit stressy everything... Very sad to see the Kiwis go down like this, had hoped they would win or draw the series. Some obvious construction sites there but happy about Taylor showing a bit of consistency and Williamson scoring big hehe. Very satisfying. Gonna get the highlights of this match.

Cheers!
