Crushing the Kenyans

Disappointing as it was to see the semifinalists of 2003 caving in like this, it's always great to start a tournament off with an easy win. Even if it was a bit too easy.

It wasn't exactly ideal preparation for the game against Australia on Friday - the Kenyans didn't put up a fight with the bat, and apart from Guptill and McCullum there was no batting practice to be had. On the other hand, my previous post cried out for a confidence boost and here it is, so it might not be such a bad thing at all. I hope the guys had a good look at the Australia-Zimbabwe game today, as we'll be playing both of them in the next couple of weeks. Australia in particular had a good workout, but more on them later.

Not much to say about the match, but good stuff from Southee and Bennett overall, keeping it "full and straight" (just about every review of the match had to include the phrase, apparently). For once we have a selection headache for the next game, if Kyle Mills is fit to play. Assuming we only play to frontline pacers, does Bennett get a look in? While the Aussies would certainly fancy putting the inexperienced Benett in his place, the guy offers decent pace and a good yorker as well as being a wicket-taking option. Something to chew on till Friday..
