Well, it's happened. Earlier this month, John Wright decided he would not be renewing his coaching contract with New Zealand. As we feared, Wright goes out after the Windies tour in July, and NZ go two years backwards.
We can rant about John Buchanan as much as we like but the two of them were never really going to be able to work together. It's a bit unfair to blame the Australian, but I wish NZC had done a lot more to find an acceptable compromise between the two. One thing that has held NZ cricket back in the last five years is a complete lack of stability, and with the coaching role changing hands for the fourth time in four years, that looks set to continue.
The thing about 'Shake' Wright is he has little time for bullshit. He had taken up the job back in 2010 practically on public demand, and I suspect once he figured NZC were less than one-hundred percent behind him and his way of doing things, he decided he couldn't be arsed and was better off spending quality time at home after the contract expired. Rightly so, the guy does have a life outside cricket.
So we wait, for a new coach. Someone who must be able to forge a working relationship with Buchanan and accede to his selectorial decisions. That itself might rule out a number of good candidates.
It's times like this you curse the way your team is run and wonder when this shooting-yourself-in-the-foot business is going to stop.

He has been into cricket for a long time and i to feel that it's a good decision ..
who's gonna be the next Kiwi coach?????
@ Play - I'm not surprised Fleming hasn't thrown his name into the hat, given how Wright has been treated. Why should a coach who is currently successful put his entire life into a job where he is ranked below John Buchanan in the organisational hierarchy. http://afinetale.blogspot.co.nz/2012/05/not-huge-shock.html
Wright has resigned and Buchanan is still there as the director? doesn't make sense. Buchanan perhaps will teach his hats theory to the players.
